Flexible pool grate

Flexible pool grates are a fundamental element for ensuring safety, functionality, and design in any swimming facility. They allow efficient water drainage in overflow pools, protecting the piping system and making the pool edge safe and comfortable. Choosing the right grate is not just about functionality: materials, aesthetics, and customization options play a key role, especially for those who want to integrate the pool into the surrounding architectural context.

In this article, we will examine the main features of flexible pool grates, the most commonly used materials, customization options, and the two flagship models offered by Nexus: TWIN SCACCO and TWIN TEAK.

Why choose a flexible pool grate

Overflow pools require an efficient and safe water collection system. Flexible grates are specifically designed to adapt to non-linear pool edges, following circular profiles or special angles. This makes them essential when the pool has customized shapes or gentle curves that cannot be covered by rigid grates.

The main advantages of flexible grates are:

  • Adaptability: perfectly follow the pool’s profile, ensuring both aesthetic and functional continuity.
  • Safety: non-slip surfaces and durable materials protect swimmers from falls and accidents.
  • Durability: materials such as polypropylene and thermoplastic elastomer resist chlorinated water, UV rays, and temperature changes.
  • Easy maintenance: modular design allows quick and safe replacement or cleaning of individual elements.

Flexible grates are therefore the ideal choice for modern and customized pools, where design should not compromise safety or functionality. Additionally, the possibility of creating color combinations or adding personalized details, such as embossed logos, makes each grate unique.

Materials and types of flexible grates

In the realm of pool grates, the materials used directly affect durability, aesthetics, and comfort. Nexus offers two main types:

Bi-material grates (polypropylene + thermoplastic elastomer)

Bi-material grates combine a durable polypropylene (PP) base with a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) surface, which ensures non-slip properties and tactile comfort. This type of grate is particularly suitable for: public or private overflow pools; areas with strong sun exposure and temperature variations; environments where swimmer safety is a priority.

The modularity of bi-material grates allows standard lengths of 500 mm, with the possibility of customized cuts to fit complex shapes. The TPE can be color-customized, creating single- or dual-color effects, and each element can feature an embossed logo.

Teak and polypropylene grates

The TWIN TEAK model represents an elegant and natural design solution. The noble teak surface combines with the polypropylene base, offering a pleasant tactile feel and high-level aesthetics. This model is available both in straight and flexible versions, perfectly adapting to pools with complex shapes or soft lines.

The main advantages of teak include a natural and refined appearance that enhances the pool area; resistance to weather and moisture; durability and ease of maintenance, while maintaining tactile comfort.

In both types, modularity and the possibility to choose different heights and widths make flexible grates a versatile element, able to fit any pool design project.

Nexus flexible pool grate models: TWIN SCACCO and TWIN TEAK

The SCACCO model is available in flexible, rigid, or reinforced versions with stainless steel bars for 90° corners. Available widths are 150, 200, 250, and 350 mm, with four standard heights for each width (20, 25, 30, 35 mm). The grate length is 500 mm, composed of 21 pre-assembled elements.

The flexible version allows following any pool profile, with a minimum bending radius depending on the width:

  • 33 cm for the 150 mm model
  • 40 cm for the 200 mm model
  • 45 cm for the 250 mm model

The SCACCO model can also be made to non-standard sizes upon request, through precise cuts of catalog dimensions. Standard colors combine neutral (PP) and blue (TPE), or white/white, but custom colors are available, allowing single- or dual-color grates. Each TPE element can be personalized with a logo, adding aesthetic value and uniqueness to the pool project.

The TWIN TEAK model represents the fusion of elegance and functionality. The teak surface combines with polypropylene, offering durability and comfort. This system is also available in straight, flexible, and reinforced versions for 90° corners, with widths from 150 to 300 mm and heights from 20 to 35 mm.

TWIN TEAK is ideal for those who want to integrate the pool with natural and sophisticated furnishings, provide safety for swimmers thanks to the non-slip teak, and customize the pool with complex shapes and curved edges without compromising material quality.

Thanks to its modularity and availability in flexible versions, TWIN TEAK perfectly fits residential or commercial projects, ensuring high performance and significant aesthetic impact.

How to choose the flexible grate for your pool

Choosing the right flexible pool grate depends on several factors:

  • Type of pool: in-ground or above-ground, public or private. Overflow pools require robust and modular grates, while above-ground pools may only need lighter, adaptable solutions.
  • Pool shape: 90° corners, gentle curves, or irregular profiles require flexible grates or customizable modular systems.
  • Material: polypropylene + TPE for durability and comfort, teak for aesthetics and natural touch.
  • Customization: choice of colors, embossed logos, single- or bi-material combinations.
  • Maintenance: modular grates make cleaning and replacing individual elements easier, reducing time and costs.

Choosing a Nexus flexible grate means having a high-quality product designed to last over time and perfectly adapt to the pool design, without compromising safety, aesthetics, or functionality.
